Nicolas Hamilton becomes Scope Ambassador
31 May 2013
Racing driver Nicolas Hamilton has been announced as a new Ambassador for Scope.
Twenty-one-year-old Nicolas, who is the brother of Formula 1 racing driver Lewis Hamilton, has cerebral palsy and up until the age of 16 he relied on the use of a wheelchair.
The ambassadorial role was awarded in recognition of his support for Scope. Over the last three years Nicolas has supported a variety of activities. He recently opened our Ashurst service in Hertfordshire, during his BBC1 documentary he talked about his work with Trendsetters, a Scope service for young disabled people, and in 2011 he attended the BGC charity trading day on behalf of Scope.
Nicolas was determined to pursue a career in motor racing. In late 2010 he was invited to drive a BMW M3 at Palmer Sport with his father. Nicolas seized the opportunity, impressing everyone with his car control and smooth driving style. In 2011 he pushed himself physically to make his own mark in the world of motor racing and he made his racing debut in the Renault Clio Cup. Nicolas finished the season 14th in the championship standings after achieving two top ten results at the last event.
Scope Chief Executive Richard Hawkes said: “Nicolas’s success is an inspiration to us all but especially for young disabled people who may not believe they can follow their dreams. We’re looking forward to working with Nicolas to help promote Scope’s important work and ultimately create a better world for disabled people and their families.”
