Scope response to the Government's announcement regarding Remploy
29 November 2007
Responding to today’s announcement by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions regarding Remploy, Jon Sparkes, Scope‘s Chief Executive, said:
“We welcome the Government’s announcement, which will support more disabled people into mainstream employment rather than being segregated from their non-disabled colleagues.”
“We understand that there is still a need to support those people who are currently employed in a sheltered workplace but we hope that this type of employment will be gradually phased out as society continues to increase opportunities for disabled people.”
Notes to editor:
Tackling barriers to employment is a key part of Scope’s Time to Get Equal campaign, which fights for disabled people‘s equality.
Scope is a disability organisation whose focus is people with cerebral palsy, and whose aim is that disabled people achieve equality.
