Scope services celebrate Volunteers Week 2012
15 June 2012
Volunteer Week 2012 was celebrated at the start of June at our Mulberry Court and Thorngrove Garden Centre services.
The services held a party for all the volunteers who have contributed over the past year. The party was a great success with lots of volunteers and staff there as well as the people they support. Each volunteer was given a special thank you and certificate in recognition of their efforts! The party had an Olympic theme with each certificate featuring a certain sport; examples included a long-standing volunteer given a Marathon award whilst a volunteer who was great at multi-tasking was given the Heptathlon award. These certificates were created by Michael, an artistic resident at the service who thought that it would be brilliant to combine the forthcoming Olympics with the annual volunteer celebration. Michael said, "I enjoyed giving the certificates which I made to the volunteers. Everyone liked the designs."
Caroline Bottomley, manager of Thorngrove, said of the volunteers she works with: "We have lots of wonderful volunteers with many different skills. Thorngrove couldn’t manage without their invaluable input, especially at the busy time of year for plants. The extra support also means that the disabled people we work with are able to tackle tasks which stretch their abilities and so make great progress."
Stuart Matthews, a volunteer at Thorngrove, said: "It is wonderful to be valued by those we help and to be rewarded in such an appropriate way."
