Family Sports Taster Days, Cornwall

Date:
13 August 2013 - 15 August 2013

There has been much talk recently in the press about the legacy of the Olympic Games held in London last year. Well, here in Cornwall, and due to the generous fundraising of the Glasstree Giftshops in St Ives, we are able to boast a bit of a legacy!

The owners of the Glasstree raised money as they felt so inspired by the Paralympics and wanted to give local disabled children the opportunity to try out some sporting activities. The Face 2 Face service in Cornwall is more than happy to help!

Working in partnership with Cornwall Sports Partnership and Cornwall's Family Information Service (FIS), we are running three taster sessions across Cornwall in the school holidays. As a bonus, FIS and Cornwall Sports Partnership are doing follow-up sessions with the children the following week. So if a child attends a taster session with their family and really enjoys a sport, they can re-visit the next week without their parents with a focus on carrying on that particular sport into the future.

Children will be able to try:

Boccia, Athletics, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Archery, 'Arrows', Wii, Seated Volleyball, Goalball, Badminton, Fencing, Football, Tennis, Golf, Judo and Cricket.

The dates, venues and times of the events are:

  • Tuesday 13 August at Bodmin College 10 am - 2 pm (bring a packed lunch)
  • Wednesday 14 August at Treviglas School, Newquay 10 am - 2 pm (bring a packed lunch)
  • Thursday 15 August at Camborne Community College, Camborne 10 am - 2 pm (bring a packed lunch)

Bookings are taken via Cornwall's Family Information Service on 0800 5878191.
