This morning I was contacted by Scope Campaigns to ask me if I would be interested in talking to The Politics Show about the changes to benefits and how these changes will affect me.
After speaking with Scope Press Office I agreed for my details and some background information to be passed on to the show. Then just waited to see if they'd phone!!
I was starting to think they had found other people to speak to when the phone went and it was the person from the show.
They started off asking general questions about my disability How long had I had it?, What benefits was I on?, What did I think to the changes in Incapacity benefit and also housing benefit. These questions I wasn't surprised by.
Then came the shock questions How did I feel about the possibility of the government using outside agencies to basically snoop on me even more. Through things like my nectar card, my tesco clubcard, any other store card, my online shopping, my online banking if I did online banking and my debit card. Apparently the government are talking about using outside agencies and technologies to snoop even more into my private life to check if the information I'm giving them is correct and to justify the cuts in benefits if I'm considered to be buying expensive things in my shopping trolley. Forget that I've always been honest with them and always told them about changes to circumstances and even come off relevant benefits when my circumstances changed that doesn't appear to be enough.
They obviously think that those of us on benefits be they disability benefits or others like housing benefits are have champagne parties every weekend because we are given too much money!! I wonder what planet they are living on because it's not this one.
Are they allowed to snoop like this what has happened to the data protection act? Or should I just stop using all store loyalty cards and online sites now and start living the life of a hermit
