English at P level 7

  • To use phrases with up to three key words, signs or symbols to communicate simple ideas, events or stories to others. To communicate ideas about past, present and future events and experiences. Contribute to one-to-one discussions and role play.
  • To listen, attend to and follow stories for short stretches of time.
  • To follow requests with four key words, signs or symbols. To attend to and respond to questions from adults and their peers about experiences, events and stories.
  • To show an interest in the activity of reading, predict elements of narrative. To distinguish between pictures and print in texts. To understand conventions of direction of reading. To know their own name is made up of letters.
  • To group letters and spaces as though writing separate words. To be aware of the sequence of letters, symbols and words. To write own name and other simple words from memory.
