Richard Bradbury CBE

Consultant, critical friend, and former chief executive of River Island

Richard Bradbury CBE
Richard Bradbury is the former chief executive of River Island, which he ran for 25 years. Richard now works part-time as a consultant and non-executive director. Richard gives his executive business experience to Scope, and to a project in the NHS, in the role of a critical friend.

Richard’s daughter attends a pioneering new Scope supported living service in Hitchin, which is home to five disabled young adults with complex needs – and which Richard was involved in setting up. In February 2013 Richard won a Beacon Fellowship Award for the 'Pioneering Philanthropy' he showed in bringing this service to fruition.

As a leading industry figure, Richard will play a big role through improving profitability and securing industry sponsored stocks in expanding and enhancing Scope’s network of 235 charity shops, as well as helping us secure support from other business leaders and companies.

Richard says,

"I have been involved closely with Scope since my retirement, and I have been very impressed with its drive and professionalism in moving the charity forward, responding to an ever increasing need and difficult giving environment.

They have shown themselves to be very creative, and focussed on improving their performance. I am extremely proud and honoured to have been nominated as a patron for Scope.

In these very difficult times we all have an even greater responsibility to help those in need. I am delighted to be able give something back. I will continue to do my best to raise awareness of disability issues, help the organisation and of course raise funds."
In these very difficult times we all have an even greater responsibility to help those in need.
