Celia Atherton OBE

Vice Chair, Chair of Quality Committee and Member of Audit and Nominations Committees.

Celia Atherton’s background is in social work - both in the statutory and not-for-profit sectors. Her most recent role was as Director of the Social Justice programme at the Dartington Hall Trust. She has also worked in fundraising and the arts.

Celia’s over-riding concern is to see everyone treated fairly – getting the opportunities and support they need to lead fulfilling lives. She says that is why she is so committed to Scope’s vision and the work we do. She is "proud to have the chance to be a Trustee and do all she can to push our society to be one where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else – where we promote and celebrate what can be done, and not accept that some don’t have what others have". Celia believes that this matters within Scope – with our employees – as much as in the direct connections we make in our wider community and with other organisations pushing to improve our lives and services.
