John Gilbert

Honorary Treasurer and member of Remuneration and Chair of Resources Committees

John Gilbert has experience in senior executive and non-executive roles, covering complex financial and resources management in private, public and voluntary sector organisations. Throughout his career, John has had a long and practical commitment to equality and inclusion, especially in the workplace, and working to remove the barriers to prevent people achieving their potential. As a long time governor of a primary school, John is passionate about the essential need for all children to get the best start in life.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Institute of Financial Services) and of the RSA (Royal Society of Arts). John has been Treasurer of a number of churches and is a Trustee of a small local charity, so he has a good understanding of charity finance.

Prior to being a Trustee, John was an independent member of Scope’s Resources Committee and its predecessor Committees for over 7 years, advising Trustees and Executive management on matters of financial strategy, management and control, organisational development and performance oversight. With many friends who have acquired disability in their lives, he has a strong empathy with and commitment to the aims, ethos and values of Scope.
