Craig y Parc School: a special school for disabled children
Therapies
Craig y Parc’s holistic approach to students has brought MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) Centre of Excellence status. Specialist physio, occupational and speech therapy; multi-sensory, touch, hydro, music and rebound therapies, are all provided on-site. Postural management and physical well-being are also part of daily activity.
The therapists are also closely involved with external healthcare professionals. Often they are the first to identify significant physical changes in a student and liaising with local therapists or medical teams is vital in monitoring clinical, surgical or equipment needs. Regular reports are provided and, where necessary, clinics attended along with the pupils. If a pupil is moving away from Craig y Parc, therapists or support assistants from the place of transition are invited to the school before transition happens, to allow them to work with the school team and get to know the pupil.
In addition, the team provides detailed reports for parents, carers, community therapists and other professionals, detailing handling and therapy techniques, equipment, and technology details.
