Meldreth Manor: a special school for disabled children

Admissions

We welcome students from any local authority and have a nationwide catchment area.

Here are the five steps needed for admission (day or residential) to Meldreth Manor School:

1) Contact the Principal

Email meldreth@scope.org.uk

Telephone: 01763 268000 during office hours and ask for the Principal's Personal Assistant.

2) Come and visit us

We can talk about the child's or young person's needs and discuss Meldreth Manor School.

Meldreth Manor is between Royston and Cambridge on the Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire border. It is easy to get to by train (King's Cross, London or Cambridge) with a railway station in the village within 20 minutes' walk from Meldreth Manor.

3) Assessment

We will arrange an assessment and we will follow this with a multi-disciplinary report. Assessments usually take one or two days and usually the child or young person comes to Meldreth.

4) Decision

We will make an initial decision as to whether the school can meet the needs of the child or young person.

If parents/guardians have not already done so it is necessary to contact their local authority with their preferred choice of school. The local authority may then name Meldreth Manor School as the preferred choice or, if there is disagreement between the local authority and parents or guardians, then the case may go to a Special Educational Needs tribunal.

5) Offer of a place

A place will be offered if it is considered that this is a suitable placement.

At this stage the child or young person may have Meldreth Manor School named in their Statement, and a start date may then be agreed. If a special educational needs tribunal has been held then the outcome of this will determine what happens next. If the SEN tribunal agrees with the LA, who is contesting the placement, and Meldreth Manor is not named, then an appeal can be made against this decision.
