Awake mentoring service

Awake Mentoring Service is commissioned by NHS Wakefield District and Wakefield Local Authority to provide a free, person-centred mentoring service for people aged 18+ with a physical or sensory impairment, long-term condition or learning difficulty across the Wakefield District.

We provide one-to-one mentoring support from trained volunteers (many of whom have lived experience of disability) to support disabled people to achieve their personal goals - anything from building confidence, accessing health and well-being services or exploring new interests, to volunteering, training or employment.

By meeting regularly, mentors and disabled people get to know each other well and together develop ways to move their lives forward and make the changes needed to achieve their goals.

You can request a mentor, or a professional, friend or carer can contact us on your behalf.

Anyone can apply to be a mentor. You don’t need any formal qualifications, but lived experience of disability is an advantage.
