Chingford Day Centre
People at Scope's Chingford Day Centre describe what Disability Living Allowance means to them in words and pictures on The Guardian website.
Chingford Day Centre is a purpose-built centre offering disabled people the chance to learn new skills and enjoy a full range of social and leisure activities.
Our flexible approach enables us to work with people as individuals, offering them relevant and enjoyable programmes that take account of their changing needs. We encourage members to build on their individual ability, and welcome all ages between 19 and 65.
We have a range of activities at the centre, including a computer training programme with our full-time tutor, weekly art classes and popular cookery courses in our fully-equipped rooms. We also have excellent links with Epping Forest College, where our members attend classes of their choice two days a week.
A few of our other activities include: music and drama at Friday Hill House, swimming at Leyton Lagoon Pool, keep fit, games and regular shopping trips. Our members also enjoy year-round gardening at the centre and at our allotment at St Anne's Church nearby.
Chingford Day Centre has four adapted mini buses, which pick up and transport members from home if they cannot manage public transport. Our dedicated team of drivers and escorts ensure the safety of our members from door to door! Also the 212 bus from Walthamstow Central stops just a couple of minutes walk away.
Referrals to Chingford Day Centre can be made via a social worker or by yourself if you are self-funding. Fees are calculated on an assessment of needs.
