Cornwall Face 2 Face Scheme

Cornwall Face 2 Face is a free and confidential service, provided by trained parent befrienders, who themselves have experience of parenting a disabled child with an impairment or additional need. Befrienders provide emotional support to other parents of disabled children at the time of diagnosis, of change or difficulty.
Face 2 Face has operated in Cornwall for 11 years and has built a reliable, dedicated network of volunteer befrienders all who are parents of disabled children and children with additional needs. Cornwall Council has funded the service during this time and we are delighted that they continue to fund the service until 2014.
Jane Jones, Cornwall Face 2 Face service manager, said:
“It’s tough to be a parent of a disabled child. But some of the best advice you can get is from people who have been through the same experience. Our Face 2 Face befriending network is based on that principle. We know it makes a huge difference to the lives of parents at a critical time.”
With 79 befrienders available across the county, the service offers one-to-one befriending and support through the popular OASIS groups where parents and carers can drop in for a cuppa and a chat.
In addition to the core Face 2 Face befriending service, the schemes provide information and signposting to parents and professionals on a range of disability services and issues.
Sleep solutions
Cornwall Face to Face also offers Sleep Solutions, offering sleep workshops to parents and professionals and one-to-one clinics for families with more severe sleep problems. Please contact 07711 059946 to discuss further.
Scope has also secured one-year funding for Face 2 Face in Cornwall through a grant from People’s Health Trust, using money raised by HealthPerfect through The Health Lottery. A new co-ordinator has been recruited and we are pleased to be able to expand the work we do in Cornwall over the financial year 2013/14.
Paralympics legacy events
In August this year we are running three Paralympic legacy events in Cornwall, using money raised for Scope by two gift shops in St Ives last Christmas. The owners of the gift shops were so inspired by the Paralympics that they wanted to inspire young disabled people to get involved in sport. Working closely with Cornwall Sports Partnership, we are happy to oblige! Please ring Jane Jones on 01872 271721 for more information if interested.
