Empowering families
Two-day course
This course is aimed at parents and carers of children with complex support needs and enhances Aiming High for Disabled Children to ensure partnership working.
The training is designed to empower parents to gain confidence in having a child with complex support needs and looks at ways to build better partnerships with professionals involved with their family.
Participants will:
- recognise parent’s journey of adaptation
- be able to celebrate your child
- know the impact of the medical and social model of disability
- understand barriers to working with professionals
- be able to look at ways to break down barriers
Supporting siblings
This half-day module can be incorporated into parents as partners or stand alone.
Participants will:
- understand the needs of siblings
- recognise the forgotten child
- be able to encourage family fun
Supporting fathers
This half-day module can be incorporated into parents as partners or stand alone.
Participants will:
- understand the needs of fathers
- recognise barriers to involving dads
- learn more about using communication strategies with and including all dads.
