Admissions

We welcome pupils from any local authority and have a nationwide catchment area.

Below are our five steps for admission to the school, whether on a daily basis or as a resident:

1. Contact the principal.

2. Come to our school for a visit.

We think the best way to get to understand the school is to pay us an informal visit.

3. A multi-disciplinary assessment and report is written.

Parents should contact the school to arrange an assessment for their child. This will establish whether the school can meet the child’s needs. An assessment will take between one and two days.

4. Initial decision made about whether the school can meet the needs of the child.

Reports will then be prepared and a place offered if it is felt that the child’s needs can be met at our school. If parents have not already done so, it would be necessary to contact their Local Education Authority at this point with their preferred choice of school. The Local Education Authority may then name Beech Tree School, or the case may be referred to a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Tribunal, if there is disagreement on the choice of school.

5. The place is offered.

At this stage the child may have Beech Tree School on their statement and a date is agreed for the child to enter the school. If a special needs tribunal has been held the outcome of this will determine what happens next. If the SEN tribunal names Beech Tree School then a date will be set for the child to enter the school. If the SEN tribunal agrees with the Local Education Authority and does not name Beech Tree School then an appeal can be made.

All referrals are considered by a multi-disciplinary group, which includes representatives from the care, education and specialist services – including a consultant clinical psychologist.

We pay particular attention to the likely impact of the prospective pupil on the safety and progress of the young people already resident.
