Ingfield Manor Secondary and 16+

The Secondary and 16+ curriculum at Ingfield is designed to prepare our students for adult life. Our purpose is to provide a holistic and personalised approach to each student’s timetable to optimise the ideal outcome for them. This ideal outcome is to leave us as responsible young people who have a real knowledge of what it means to be a global citizen and have the skills in place to lead as independent a life as is possible.

Students will have spent time exploring the various groups to which they belong as a citizen and their rights and responsibilities within these groups as well as learning about students in different cultures and lands. They will have been actively involved in raising funds to support students in the third world.

Skills-based curriculum

We are continually developing a highly structured skills-based curriculum which encourages problem-solving and the ability to reason by generalising specifically taught skills in different learning situations. This applies particularly to the skills of communication and understanding number where numerous opportunities are provided for the students to practise their skills off-site in real-life situations.

The curriculum in our secondary department begins in a concept-based model with transition from the primary department being carefully planned for so as to happen in a smooth and secure way for the student. Learning becomes more context based within KS4 in order to prepare for the life skills and college experiences which will be part of a personalised programme in Key Stage 5.

Transition

At every point of transition there is close collaboration between staff teams, and planned sessions to experience the new environment are built into the timetable. The final transition from school to the outside world is a daunting one for many students and parents. At Ingfield, we understand the fears and build a transition team around our year 13 and 14 students to ensure that there is opportunity to express feelings and time to be allocated to visits to new settings as well as working closely with the related adult teams.
