Speech and language therapy

At Meldreth Manor School, all students’ and pupils’ individual means of communication are recognised and respected. We ensure that each student has a personal means of communication that is available, accessible, updated, respected and shared.

We promote a total communication environment whereby all types of communication including alternative and augmentative communication systems (AAC) are valued and used. These include: photos, pictures, symbols, objects of reference, non-verbal communication, vocalisation / speech, language and high-tech devices, if appropriate.

We firmly believe that the communication process should be interactive, promoting students to be active communicators.

Students’ eating and drinking skills are also monitored by the speech and language therapist, in liaison with other key professionals including the occupational therapist, physiotherapist, teachers and key workers.
