Families In Focus is a parent-led registered charity committed to helping improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children with disabilities/special needs (aged 0-19) across Essex and their families.

We offer a unique service providing holistic independent support to any family who has a child/children with any disability/special need, requiring advice, information and support, particularly at times of change, challenge and crisis.

We understand the distressing emotions, frustrations and challenges that parents and carers face in bringing up their special child and aim to give caring, practical and confidential support when needed.

We also aim to empower parents to do what is right for them and their children, to make the best use of available services, to receive appropriate support for their child and to address obstacles to achieving this. We also offer:

• An information service and helpline
• One-to-one advice and support from our Family Support Advisers through home visits (including completion of DLA forms and other related benefit forms)
• Independent Parental Support on educational issues including assessment, statementing and exclusions
• Mutual support through group activities including: Weekly Saturday Activity Club for the whole family; drop-ins at a number of locations across Essex; information/advice sessions at various venues; speakers and learning opportunities at various venues around Essex; social events.
• Kidzspace, a special group for siblings (brothers and sisters aged 8+). These sessions allow siblings of special needs children to have some time away from the family group and to take part in activities which might otherwise be difficult for the family
• Other opportunities including parents' indulgence days and play opportunities
