Scope’s residential service for disabled people in Kelvedon, Essex is consistently rated as ‘excellent’ by the regulatory authority. Grangewood provides accommodation and support for up to 15 disabled adults with complex support needs, some of whom also have learning difficulties.

For some time now, we have been reviewing the future of a number of our older residential services with customers, their families and staff.

While we have been reviewing plans and options for the future, the existing Grangewood building needs significant investment this year to keep it running. In the long term, we don’t think this would be a good use of our resources as we know the building itself limits the service our professional staff can deliver.

We have recently had to make the very difficult decision to offer customers and staff alternative places to live and work in our other services in the local area in Feering, Tiptree and Wakes Colne, whilst we develop new services.

Whilst we are fortunately able to offer all our customers and staff alternative places at our other services close by, these will also eventually change as we develop new services.

Understandably, this may be a difficult time and we are offering as much support as we can to make the transition as smooth as possible over the next few months.
