Jack Howarth House is a residential service in Oxford for disabled adults with profound and multiple impairments.

Located next to a golf club, the home is a two-storey redbrick building, providing single room accommodation for eight people.

Facilities at the service include a specialist therapist room with specialist sensory and relaxation equipment.

A range of communication methods have been adopted, led by speech and language specialists who are employed to develop each person's ability to express themselves through regular one-to-one sessions.

Parents and carers are encouraged to be involved to develop a rounded picture of the individuals' skills and needs with advocates ensuring that individual assessments and care plans offer personal development opportunities.

These circles of support enable the staff at Jack Howarth to identify individual preferences and the aspirations of the individual residents. This in turn has lead to involvement with local colleges, resource centres and training centres as well as a healthy social life visiting local amenities, pubs, restaurants and sporting activities.
