Scope in North East: The Maze Project
"I have enjoyed the male company because all my carers are female. My mentor has helped me to do things I was not able to do and has boosted my confidence."
Funded by the Big Lottery since 2003, The Maze Project is a free mentoring service for people with physical disabilities, mental health problems and learning disabilities aged 14+ across the boroughs of Stockton and Middlesbrough.
We recruit train and supervise volunteers to become mentors. They are then matched with a disabled person to help and support that individual work towards a specific and identified goal, thus opening up new opportunities, promoting independence and raising self-esteem.

We hold a regular support group for our volunteers, which provides further training and a chance to get to know each other.

E-mentoring
Where an individual has very little confidence, or low self-esteem, doesn't like face to face contact, they may prefer to engage in mentoring online in a secure chatroom. To find out about this service, email maze.project@scope.org.uk
