Based in the cloisters of a converted church in Croydon, Speakers Court is a modern registered service managed by Scope and part of a sheltered housing development run by Croydon Churches Housing Association.
Founded in 1991, it is a progressive independent living scheme that offers seven disabled people with cerebral palsy and associated impairments the opportunity to live in a choice of five purpose-built ground-floor flats based around a pretty courtyard. Two of the flats are for couples and three are for single people.
There is no central kitchen or canteen - all residents, with staff assistance, go shopping on a weekly basis and prepare meals in their own kitchen. They have maximum independence and choice in their day-to-day lives.
Speakers Court encourages residents to pursue as independent a lifestyle as possible. All our residents are able to access the town centre and local facilities in a variety of ways and although there are no centrally arranged internal activities, all lead a very active social life.
