Employment training for young disabled people in Tower Hamlets

First impressions, first experiences is a 14-week programme to support young disabled people in Tower Hamlets and surrounding areas on the road to a rewarding career.

What will you learn?

You will find out how to:

  • write a CV
  • contact potential employers
  • fill out application forms
  • build confidence and assertiveness
  • work as part of a team
  • disclose an impairment or condition
  • manage personal finances
  • travel independently

How does it work?

Once you are on the programme, this is how it works:

Week 1 – 2 Initial

  • You work with one of our advisors to think about career goals and build a personal action plan.

Week 3 – 4 Personal development

  • You meet your advisor and take part in workshops to develop important skills for the job market.

Week 5 – 12 Work experience

  • You go on a part-time work placement in a job that matches your career aspirations.
  • You have opportunities to further develop your skills and time to make job applications with support from local employers, a mentor from the local business community and your Scope advisor.

Week 13 – 14 Action planning

  • You work with your advisor to review your experience on the programme and think about the next steps in your career.
