Scope has been fortunate to have had celebrity support since its inception in the 1950s.
More recently, on 11 September 2008, 13 celebrity supporters kindly gave up an hour of their time to support Scope at the fourth annual BGC Charity Day, raising a huge amount of money for our work with disabled children. Amongst those attending were Michael Buerk, Beverley Knight MBE, Kate Silverton and Sian Lloyd. Pictured here are fellow Scope guests (l-r) Dan Gillespie-Sells from top band The Feeling, Kelly Knox from Britain's Missing Top Model, Cilla Black OBE, Nicky Hambleton-Jones from C4's 10 Years Younger and model Emma Noble. Long-term supporters Ben Elton and Cherie Blair also attended and were interviewed about their work for Scope - access these interviews and read more about the event.
Earlier in the year a huge range of stars supported our Time to Get Equal Week in June 2008 - see their pictures here.
Also in June, comedian Richard Herring joined together with long-time cerebral palsy campaigner Dame Vera Lynn at Scope's Ingfield Manor School to open their summer fete, and top magican Fay Presto and her team used their amazing skills to promote Scope's message of equality for disabled people to office workers in London's Spitalfields Market.
In the first half of the year ex SAS Major and Beyond Boundaries presenter Ken Hames led an accessible fundraising trek up Ben Nevis, top children's author Dame Jacqueline Wilson helped promote Scope's In The Picture project - aimed at increasing use of disabled children in children's books - and popular 'Allo 'Allo actress Vicki Michelle visited Scope's Chingford Day Centre to watch their performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
We have also had fantastic celebrity support this year for the many Scope activity fundraising events. Radio and TV broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby, BBC Sport presenter John Inverdale and Motor GP presenter Suzi Perry have all endorsed events, ranging from our Russia Bike Ride to our Rajasthan Motorcycle Challenge.
