This service

Birchwood is a residential care home for disabled adults with a range of impairments and learning difficulties.

For us, it’s about more than just accommodation and personal care. Our service provides a safe and supportive environment where individuals can meet their personal aspirations and pursue their future goals. We can act as a stepping stone to independent living and we work with everyone involved to plan for the future.

Your support staff

We offer high standards of personal support, with customers having their own rooms and shared areas to socialise with friends or take part in events or activities.

Our staff are highly trained and are specialists in supporting people with complex support needs.

You can pay for your care using your direct payments, personal budgets, private income or through the local authority.

Changes at Birchwood

We have recently reviewed all our residential care homes and in September 2013 our Board of Trustees made a proposal to change Birchwood in 2015.

We want to give people more choices and control, we are exploring the possibility of a supported living model.

We talked about the proposals with everyone who is directly affected within two weeks of making them and now we are just starting to plan next steps. We want to listen to everyone who lives and works at Birchwood before making a decision on its future. We are planning to make a decision in mid-late 2015.

We are fully committed to supporting each person involved by offering independent advocacy and working with their local authority social worker to find out what kind of support they would like in future.
