First Impressions, First Experiences is a pre-employment training course for young disabled people living in East London.

If you are aged 16 to 24, disabled and live in Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney or any other close East London borough, this course will help you:

  • develop important employability skills
  • grow in confidence and independence
  • find and complete work experience in a career of your choice
  • make life-changing career decisions.

About our employment training

The course starts with two meetings with the course leaders, this gives us a chance to get to know you and you a chance to get to know us. We will work together to make sure the course is the right choice for you, and if it is, we will work with you to set some goals to start you on your journey.

You 'll then take part in six weeks of pre-employment skills training, three mornings a week. You'll work with a group of no more than 15 young people to develop the skills that will help you have the confidence to move forward with your career.

After this, you'll be offered a four to eight week work experience placement which matches your career aims. You will also have weekly "next steps" sessions to work on interview technique and job-searching skills, and a weekly one-to-one meeting with your personal mentor.

Finally, you'll have ten weeks of one-to-one support from Scope staff, with a personal action plan, as you continue gaining skills and applying for the next steps in your career.

Work experience

We work with a range of businesses to make sure that everyone on the course is offered work experience that is right for them. Recent placements have included London Overground, Hoxton Hall, NHS Litigation Authority, The Specialist Works, Accelerate CIC and Credit Suisse.

If you are business based in East London and are interested in providing work experience for the young people on our course, please contact us using the details below.
