Book department volunteer

Why we need you
- To select suitable books for sale and ensure the book department is always well presented
- To generate essential funds for Scope
What will I be doing?
- Sorting donated books and keeping an eye out for special or valuable books
- Pricing books appropriately, taking into account their age, condition and collectability
- Arranging saleable books in different categories such as travel, cookery and biographies
- Helping maintain a continuous supply of fresh books to the shelves
What skills do I need?
- An enthusiasm for books
- A knowledge of the value of books would be really helpful, as would previous experience in a library or book shop
- The ability to work as part of a team
How much time do I need to commit?
You can agree your hours with your manager who will try to be as flexible as possible. Many of our volunteers contribute one or two four-hour shifts a week.
What support will I be given?
We will provide all the training you need to feel confident in the role. The shop manager will be available to advise and assist you as you work in the shop. There may also be other experienced volunteers in the team who will be available when you need help or want to ask a question.
