These Terms of Use apply in respect of your use of Scope's Website (www.scope.org.uk) and our associated websites. These websites are operated by Scope and are collectively referred to in these Terms of Use as "Scope's Website". Please refer to our Privacy Policy for more information about Scope.
Your access to and use of Scope's Website is subject to these Terms of Use, Scope's Website's Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms of Use (which can be found by clicking on the Privacy link on any page of Scope's Website) - the Forum and Blog Rules, picture and story submission rules and all applicable laws.
Your use of Scope's Website constitutes your unqualified agreement to accept and comply with these Terms of Use and to not breach, or to encourage or assist any other person to breach, these Terms of Use.
Terms of Use - The Detail
1. Use of Scope’s Website
Scope’s Website is offered as a free information service for anyone who wishes to find out more about Scope, our aims and the services we offer and is directed primarily at those who access Scope’s Website from within the United Kingdom.
Whilst we use reasonable efforts to include accurate and up-to-date information on Scope’s Website, errors may occur. We provide Scope’s Website and its contents on an “as is” basis and cannot give any warranty or representation as to the accuracy of the information on Scope’s Website or that access to Scope's Website will be uninterrupted or error-free. We do not accept liability for errors or omissions or for any action or decision based on the information displayed on Scope’s Website.
You agree to use Scope’s Website only for lawful and ethical purposes in accordance with these Terms of Use. 2. Links and Social Media Websites
Hypertext links are links by which visitors can move from one website to another or from one page to another within the same website. Scope’s Website contains hypertext links and banner advertising links to third parties’ websites. Any links between Scope’s Website and any third party website are provided for your convenience only and we accept no liability whatsoever for the contents of any such third party website. The inclusion of any link to a third party website does not imply endorsement by Scope of the website or its operator. We exclude to the fullest extent permitted by law all liability that may arise in connection with or as a result of third party website material or the third party website operator causing any damage, costs, injury or loss of any kind.
Scope’s Website contains links to pages maintained by us on third party social media websites. The terms specified on those websites will apply to your use of those websites in addition to these Terms of Use.
You agree that if you wish to create any links between Scope’s Website and any other website you will do so only in accordance with our terms of use (go to linking with us for information on link text).
3. Trade Marks, Logos and Service Marks
The trade marks, logos and service marks (collectively “the Trade Marks”) displayed on Scope’s Website (whether registered or unregistered) are and shall remain the property of their respective owners. Unless otherwise stated, nothing contained in Scope’s Website shall be construed as granting any licence or right to use any Trade Mark displayed on Scope’s Website without the prior written consent of the relevant Trade Mark owner. Your misuse or infringement of any of the Trade Marks displayed on Scope’s Website is strictly prohibited.

The copyright in all aspects of Scope’s Website is owned by us or our content and technology providers. We do not warrant or represent that your use of materials displayed on Scope’s Website will not infringe the rights of third parties.
Unless we expressly agree otherwise, you must not copy, adapt, download, exploit or otherwise use information and/or images contained in Scope’s Website in any way, save for the purpose of (1) enquiring about or requesting information relating to Scope and our services, (2) downloading and temporarily storing one or more of the pages of Scope’s Website for the purpose of viewing, for your personal use only, on a personal computer or terminal or (3) conducting private or non-commercial academic research. If you use any material displayed on Scope’s Website for any of the above purposes you must ensure that no documents or related graphics on Scope’s Website are modified in any way, no graphics on Scope’s Website are used separately from the accompanying text and our copyright and trade mark notices appear on all permitted copies. 5. Viruses
Whilst we try to keep our anti-virus software up-to-date we do not warrant that Scope’s Website, its servers, downloadable files or emails which may be sent by us, are free from viruses or other harmful components.
You must not introduce or attempt to introduce any virus or other contaminant to Scope’s Website or any of its software or systems or in any way attempt to access, alter, de-compile, reverse engineer, destroy or otherwise tamper with any part of Scope’s Website, its software or our systems. You must not interfere with anybody else’s use of Scope’s Website or attempt to impair the proper functioning of Scope’s Website whether by assisting in the organisation of, or participating in, a denial of service attack or otherwise.
6. Scope’s Forum and Blogs
If you wish to access, view or post blogs or comments on any forum, a blog or any other part of Scope’s Website, you will be required to register with Scope’s Website and agree to be bound by the Forum and Blog Rules, which for part of these Terms of Use.
Certain areas of Scope’s Website contains facilities which allow you to upload text and photographs. The text and photographs will be treated in the same manner as comments posted on a forum or blog on Scope’s Website and the Forum and Blog Rules apply as if the text and photographs are comments to be posted on a forum or blog. 7. Send to a friend facilities
This section of the Terms of Use applies to any use of our “send to a friend” facilities ("Facilities"). For the avoidance of doubt all of the other provisions of the Terms of Use shall also apply to your use of the Facilities. We may (but are not obliged to) monitor the contents of messages sent using the Facilities (“Messages”) and we assume no liability arising from the content of any Message.
You undertake:
- to accept full responsibility for the contents of any Messages;
- to use the Facilities only for lawful purposes;
- not to send inaccurate, defamatory, abusive, offensive, pornographic, racist, sexist, threatening, vulgar, obscene, hateful or otherwise inappropriate material or material which will constitute a criminal offence or give rise to civil liability or which may cause offence in relation to sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability or working status in any Messages;
- not to harass or upset third parties through your use of the Facilities;
- not to include in Messages any material which refers to a third party or is protected by confidentiality, copyright, trade mark or other propriety right without the express permission of the third party owner;
- not to impersonate any person or to assume a false identity;
- not to send Messages to any person under the age of 18;
- not to send personal information about yourself or any third party using the Facilities;
- not to insert material into Messages which contains viruses, files or programs that are designed to disrupt, damage or limit the functioning of any software or hardware equipment;
- not to use the Facilities for any commercial purpose or to send advertisements, chain letters, surveys, pyramid schemes or requests for money; and
- not to use the Facilities in order to obtain unauthorised access to data or other information of ours or any third party.
You acknowledge that the recipient of your Message will be able to identify you from the information you provide when submitting your Message and that we will cooperate with any person, law enforcement authority or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone sending material using the Facilities in breach of the Terms of Use, any law (whether civil or criminal) or the legal rights of any party.
8. Donations and Gift Aid
If you make a donation using Scope’s Website you may be able to take advantage of the United Kingdom Government’s Gift Aid scheme. Please refer to the Donate page of this website for further information.
9. Becoming a member of Scope
If you apply to become a member of Scope, whether using the website or by phone or post, you will be bound by the Terms of Use as are all users of the website. Additional terms will apply in respect of your membership of Scope which will be communicated to you on application.
10. Registering on Scope’s website
If you register with Scope’s Website we will create a user account for you. You will be bound by these Terms of Use as are all users of Scope’s Website. We may at our discretion decline to accept your registration or revoke your registration at any time.
Unless we specifically agree otherwise in writing with you, you may not register with Scope’s Website unless you are 18 years of age or older. When you register you will be asked to confirm your age and to create a user name and password. You agree to keep this password confidential and not disclose it to any third party. If you become aware or suspect that a third party may know your password you agree to contact us immediately so that we may change it. You agree not to use any other user’s user name and password to access any part of Scope’s Website.
By registering with Scope’s Website you will gain access to content which would not otherwise be available to you and may be given rights to access certain areas of Scope’s Website. We may impose additional terms before granting such rights, may vary those terms at any time and may suspend or terminate those rights at any time.

If any of these Terms of Use are unenforceable it shall not affect the enforceability of the rest of them.
These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law. The English Courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction to hear disputes between us.
