How Scope makes a world of difference to Theodore
When Theodore came to Ingfield Manor at six years of age, it was obvious to our experienced staff how bright and full of potential he was. Like many children with an impairment that makes speech difficult, he uses what is known as a communication aid - a device, such as a book or electronic machine that allows users to show what they want to say.
Theodore's communication aid is fine for most of his everyday activities, but it is also very limiting. Just like any 10-year-old boy, Theodore's intellect is developing at a rate of knots and his vocabulary is quickly leaving his current communication aid behind. You and I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to be held back in such a fundamental area by an inadequate device.
Theodore is not alone. There are around 600,000 people across the UK who need some assistance with communication, but it's not as easy as simply raising enough money to give everyone a communication device - because everybody's needs are different. We work across the country with disabled people whose impairment limits their communication. Whether it's supporting them in school to improve their spelling or sign-language, or identifying the most appropriate communication aid for their abilities - Scope makes a world of difference.
We'll be there to help and support Theodore all the way. We have the knowledge, experience and determination to understand every child's needs and make sure they get the assistance they need.
