Training and consulting services

In our experience from discussions with many HR and diversity managers in corporations and the public sector, of all the diversity areas they see disability as the most difficult area to handle. Whilst the organisation’s policies on equality are clear there are often real barriers in the workplace.

There are a number of reasons for this:

  • Often people perceive that the adjustments required when appointing a disabled person are complex and expensive. In reality, what is required is usually minor, incurring very little cost.
  • The concerns of future co-workers and supervisors can be a bigger limiter than the actual condition of the disabled person.
  • The pool of talent represented by disabled people is simply not recognised.
  • There is a tendency to stereotype disability – for example, a disabled person is a wheelchair user. In reality, disabled people have a range of conditions.

Such concerns and misconceptions are understandable, but often unfounded. Often, the solution is quite simple.

We have a wealth of experience in Scope to provide practical guidance and support, using the resources of our Employment Officers and Advisors and qualified specialist training consultants.

We can provide:

  • General disability awareness programmes
  • Specific training for supervisors and co-workers of disabled people
  • Advice on adjustments required for a range of conditions
  • Consultancy on diversity and disability policies and procedures

Some of the above is available as part of WORKSTEP placements, but can also be provided outside of a supported programme.
