Mark Atkinson, Chief Executive at disability charity Scope, said:
“Esther McVey is the fifth Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in less than two years.
“It’s vital she stands by previous commitments to protect disability benefits from further cuts, and to get one million more disabled people into work over the next decade.
“Scope research shows that for every 100 disabled people moving into work, 114 leave. The Government announced its plan to tackle the challenges around disability employment last month.
“It is a solvable problem, but to deliver on that plan, the Secretary of State must act quickly to address the fundamental issues of mistrust, lack of transparency and a lack of accountability that currently exist.”
