Rob's 2015 ride is just months away

He brings us up to speed with his Christmas fundraising, New Year cycling and future Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 training plans.

Riders waiting to get on the ferry

The tougher the challenge, the greater the glory

Here we are in 2015, just eight months away from the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100! The cold, rain and wind have made it a bit tougher to keep the miles ticking over but that’s all part of the challenge. There are options around rollers and turbo trainers to help through the winter but, for me, I don’t think you can beat just getting outside and braving it!

A few weeks back I took part in an event around the Isle of Wight. We were on the ferry at 8am and were lucky to have a really fresh, crisp and bright day. The course was about 65 miles in total and saw about 700 riders taking part and having lots of fun.

Past mechanical failures

I have done quite a few events now and up until this point I have only been bothered mechanically by the odd puncture. However, on approach to the first feed station on this ride, I found I couldn’t get my foot out of one of the pedals. It turns out that two of the three screws had come out of my cleats and so there was no resistance on the clip – it made for an interesting dismount!

Onwards and upwards

I held the Christmas prize draw which contributed quite a bit towards the fundraising total. I am now looking ahead to see what may come next. Car boot sale? Quiz night? These seem to be most likely. I find it really helps when you can tell people how the money can be used – there is lots of fundraising information on what the different amounts can provide. Having this information makes the fundraising aspect real.

So, here’s to 2015. Let’s get out and have some fun on the bikes and raise funds for this great cause!
