Community Engagement programme

Scope's Community Engagement programme empowers local people to take action and create change in their local communities.

The programme is for disabled people aged between 12 and 65, families, parents and unpaid carers of disabled children.

The project is funded by People's Health Trust.

The Community Engagement Programme is currently running in:

  • Brighton
  • Hove
  • Thurrock
  • Southend
  • West Norfolk (Kings Lynn and Downham Market)

How it works

Groups of local people meet once a month at an informal gathering where they can meet new people, propose and develop new projects. Each area has a pot of money to spend on local projects developed by local people. The group takes part in decisions about how to allocate money to projects.

Examples of local projects which have been funded include:

  • improving beach access
  • sleep workshops for parents
  • disability awareness training for local shops
  • art workshops
  • new support groups
  • shared work space
  • a signing choir
  • accessible allotments.

You may want to join something that is already happening, volunteer or start something new. Get in touch if you want to find out more or get involved!
