Job description

Role purpose

Employment/Careers Advisers are responsible for the provision of services concerning careers for disabled adults and or young people. The post holder will manage a case load as defined within agreed service models and or delivery plans, they will motivate colleagues and customers to achieve their potential and report on service outcomes and impact. They will be an active participant within their team, the wider organisation and as appropriate with external organisations.

They will operate as a competent professional needing minimum supervision beyond the probationary period, be proficient in the role and possess the required professional knowledge and expertise to perform the role effectively. They will solve routine problems within the context of the service and role. They will carry out the required tasks with a limited degree of supervision and prompting. This role requires individuals to either possess (or undertake) and

maintain relevant technical training and accreditation (as determined by Scope) which may include recognition by a professional body.

They will deliver career and employment services to disabled adults, young people and professionals. These services sit under the strategic goal to support disabled people to get in, stay in and progress in work.

Scope services are provided in the pursuit of social change, and to the development of the full potential of an individual, group or community (including supporting professionals where applicable). They provide practical support to individuals, groups and professionals, to help with

Career and employment programmes and action plans. There will be a focus on support, inclusion, and skills development. The post holder is not intended to manage crisis intervention but is required to facilitate onward signposting of individuals to appropriate services and support including to safeguarding professionals.

The post holder is required to work remotely and or face to face with customers in our offices, the wider community and work settings. Scope actively supports flexible working arrangements for its colleagues therefore a mixture of home working and non-homeworking will be accommodated within the context of the role and in line with our flexible working policy considering customer and business needs.

This is a Scope career level two role so coproduction and collaboration with disabled people, supporters and internal and external professionals is required to achieve agreed plans, actions and outcomes. The ability to be inclusive, creative, organised and adaptable is required to maintain and develop service provision, individual wellbeing, team cohesion, performance and impact.

Person specification

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Relevant recent experience of providing advice and guidance within the Employability sector or a similar field to disabled people.
  • Experience of working with external partner organisations to help promote services.
  • Ability to deliver service KPIs.
  • Ability to adapt your delivery style for face to face and digital meetings as required.
  • Flexibility and willingness to provide support across portfolio of services across England and Wales as customer need dictates. (digitally if out of geographic location).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to provide advice and information in a meaningful, appropriate, and supportive manner.
  • Strong team working skills.
  • Excellent IT skills (including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams)

Desirable

  • Understanding of the social model of disability.
  • Familiar with CRM systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics.
  • IAG Level 2 and up or
  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) Level 3 or AET

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a range of customers and stakeholders/employers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, tailored to a variety of audiences.
  • To be able to work independently (outreach nature of the role).
  • Effective diary and time management skills to facilitate good management of a caseload.
