Job description

Role purpose

In collaboration with the rest of the Safeguarding team you will be responsible for giving support and advice to the rest of the organisation in responding to concerns or complaints affecting the safety and welfare of our customers, colleagues and supporters. You will ensure appropriate action is taken to promote their welfare and protect them from harm, being accountable for decisions and action taken to have the best possible outcomes through advice and guidance. The role will also be responsible for providing administration support to the rest of the safeguarding team. 

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Be an expert in directly safeguarding adults, young people, and children 
  • Ensure that every employee, volunteer, and customer is happy, safe, and well
  • Responsibility on an operational day to day basis to promote safeguarding and the wellbeing of all people
  • Provide support and guidance to employees and volunteers across the organisation to enable them to implement a local response to concerns and allegations
  • Support and develop employee and volunteer understanding, maintaining high standards of care, values, ethics, equality and diversity and policies and procedures.
  • Ensure legislation requirements are met.
  • Champion a culture of safeguarding and wellbeing excellence always
  • Provide organisation and administration support to the safeguarding team 
  • To work seamlessly across department or team boundaries in a collaborative and constructive manner to implement Scope’s strategic direction
  • To demonstrate a commitment to customer service excellence and deliver against the requirements of Scope’s quality framework.
  • To work within Scope’s policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or equivalent 
  • Level 3 safeguarding training

Knowledge and Experience

Essential 

  • Managing safeguarding concerns and making appropriate referrals into Children and/or Adult Social Care 
  • Knowledge of DBS processes and related legislation 
  • Have a good, sound, working knowledge of current safeguarding, child and adult protection legislation, statutory and other related guidance
  • Knowledge of best practice relating to Safeguarding

Desirable

  • Managing safeguarding concerns and making appropriate referrals into Children and Adult Social Care 
  • Knowledge of DBS processes and related legislation 
  • Have a good, sound, working knowledge of current safeguarding, child and adult protection legislation, statutory and other related guidance 
  • Demonstrable understanding of the social model of disability 
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Experience of working within the Charity Sector

Skills and competencies

Essential

  • You should have strong experience dealing with stakeholders and building rapport with people, as well as the ability to resolve problems & deal with queries in a proactive manner.
  • Must have experience in a similar role
  • Preparing and presenting safeguarding, child and adult protection reports and information
  • Able to manage and prioritise according to level of risk and impact
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Resilience 
  • Good administration and organisational skills
