Coronavirus: information and updates

Gabe's marathon effort

After all fundraising events were cancelled, Gabe took it upon himself to raise money for Scope. As his parents explain, he really went the distance…

What was the challenge that Gabe took on?

He originally set out to walk 0.26 miles, but he was benefitting so much physically and emotionally from walking, the challenge was extended to 2.6 miles – a tenth of a marathon – over 10 days. Then he wanted to keep going until his 22nd birthday – reaching 11.2 miles in total! Pretty amazing for someone who is blind with cerebral palsy, autism and epilepsy.

It is indeed! How much money did he raise?

Over £20,000!

Wow! You must be really proud of him?

We are. So proud. And the whole community is too. They lined the streets to support him, and he pulled everyone together over the difficult time of lockdown. We couldn’t be more proud!

Want to pick up the baton?

Inspired by Gabe’s endeavours? Large public events like marathons won’t be happening for some time, but there are still plenty of ways for you to challenge yourself and raise funds for Scope.
