Making a right royal difference

Volunteering at our shops is a great way to meet new people. Just ask Christine. She’s been helping out at our shop in Hull for over 20 years. And last summer she was invited to Buckingham Palace, where she met someone very special.

How did you find out that you were invited to the Palace?

The shop manager presented me with flowers and a letter with a royal crest, inviting me to the Queen’s Garden Party. And she gave me a crown, so I could be ‘Queen for the Day’.

So, ma’am, the big question, how was the Garden Party?!

Buckingham Palace was beautiful. There was a big marquee in the garden where we had tea. And I met Princess Beatrice! She said, ‘how do you do?’. I shook her hand and curtsied.

What do you enjoy the most about helping out at our shop?

I really enjoy talking to the customers, but what I love the most is the friends I have made. People here are so nice.

Why should other supporters consider volunteering too?

It’s a great way to make new friends, whilst supporting others and making a real difference. So yes, volunteer!
