You are there from day one

Thanks to you, we’ve opened a new service. Navigate supports parents of disabled children who have been diagnosed. It connects parents with advisers, like Kate.

This is her first week on the job. She explains how you’re enabling her to be there from the start.

Monday

“I wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t for you, so thank you.”

Navigate is officially open! It connects advisers like me with parents of children who’ve just been diagnosed. You’re helping fund the service, so thank you for giving me this opportunity! It’s my first day working for Scope, but I’ve been part of the family for a while. I started using the online community when my daughter Eve was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.

Tuesday

“I’ve been there, now you’re helping me be there for others.”

Today I took a call from a parent whose child was just diagnosed. She was understandably frightened, like I was when Eve was diagnosed, 17 years ago. Back then, there was no follow up, no information, nothing. The doctor said, “Your daughter’s got Cerebral Palsy. See you in six months.”  But it’s not like that now, thanks to you. Today, I was able to give the parent some advice about what to do next, and I reassured her that I would be there for her all the way.

Wednesday

“You’re enabling parents to take control of their family’s future."

Today I spoke to a parent and sent her a checklist to take into her next meeting at school. The checklist was something I used, and it helped me remember everything I wanted to say. It’s your child and their future, so it’s important to be in control.

Thursday

“Thank you for helping parents of disabled children to be more informed.”

A parent called me today to talk about her child’s education. We went through the options in detail and I gave her information about the support available. She hadn’t been aware of any of it. She felt much more informed. She’s going to tell her friends about Navigate.

Friday

“What a difference a week makes, what an impact you’re having!”

I spoke to another parent today and at the end of the call she said, ‘I feel so much more supported already’. I wanted you to hear that, because it shows you the
difference that you’re making to the parents of disabled children, in just one week.

Thank you.

Navigate was exactly the kind of service that Kate needed when Eve was first diagnosed. Thanks to you, parents in a similar position now won't have to navigate their journey by themselves.
