Alderbury Bungalow has now changed to a supported living service. Following consultation with the people who lived there, their relatives, staff and funding authorities the decision was made to change the service on 21 December 2015. This means that the current residents now have their own rights as a tenant to live in their own home and can choose how they are supported in everyday life – this is known as ‘supported living’. Everyone living at Alderbury will remain in their existing home and continue to receive care they need.
In September 2013 we reviewed all our residential care homes and our Board of Trustees made a proposal to change Alderbury Bungalow. We want to raise expectations when it comes to disability and we want everything we do to reflect our ambitions. The way social care works has changed and disabled people's aspirations have changed since this care home was opened. We want to support disabled people to be able to make a choice about where they live, how they live and who they live with, much like everybody else does.
