The Community Companions Project is aimed at disabled people aged 50 plus and covers the Bridgend County Borough.
The befriending scheme provides fully trained and DBS checked volunteer befrienders, who offer companionship to an older person. They are able to accompany and assist a person who may be socially isolated to meet new people, catch up with old friends, family or to take part in local activities of their choice.
In addition, The Community Companions Activity Café runs each Thursday between 10am and 1pm at the Talbot Community Centre in Kenfig Hill.
Each week there is a different activity in which everyone is welcome to take part in, such as Boccia & board games, arts and craft workshops, table top gardening, chair based exercise and healthy eating sessions. We also have cookery and information sessions and tips on health and wellbeing as well as day trips and community fairs.
Refreshments are provided along with a selection of cakes and biscuits and there is always a trained member of the Community Companions team at hand and available to chat with or to help with any questions or advice you may have. Transport can also be arranged for those that are unable to attend the cafe due to transport issues. There is small charge of £4 to attend the Community Café which includes all refreshments and activities.
