This service

Everyone needs some time off once in a while. We offer tailored short breaks, also known as respite or a sitting service, for disabled children and young people. It gives them a chance to do something different and gives parents a break from providing care. It can be for a few hours or a day as required.

With our short breaks it’s your choice – go out and have fun, or spend time at home.

Our short breaks can provide support to children and young people in their own home or in the community whilst carer has a break. Or to provide care assistance to you whilst you are on holiday you have arranged. We do not provide residential accommodation for short breaks. Children and young people have a chance to do something different, developing their confidence, independence and new skills.

Is it for you?

Our short breaks are for children and young people up to 18 with any impairment, sometimes known as special needs. These include dysphagia, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, autism, physical impairments and learning difficulties.

Getting started

We will talk with you and your child to find out what’s important and how they need to be supported. Together, we’ll develop a support plan around the things they want to do, with a focus on what they’d like to achieve.

Your support staff

We’ll find support staff who you like and you’ll get on with.

Supporting families with disabled children for the past 60 years, we know how much selecting great and caring staff matters. We train our staff thoroughly to provide safe and quality support.

Families can pay for short breaks at home using direct payments, personal budgets, private income, or through the local authority or continuing health care funding.

Book us for an hour or two, a whole day out or overnight – we’re pretty flexible.
