Bow Arts invites applications for the 9th year of the Artist Educator Traineeship. This is a paid opportunity and is designed for applicants who are passionate about arts education, would like to gain skills and experience working in schools, and are currently underrepresented in the arts sector.   
£52.50 for a half day. £105.00 for a full day.

Key information

This trainee programme at Bow Arts will give four artists the opportunity to gain experience and the necessary skills to deliver arts education projects within schools. We are recruiting four trainees who are either in the early stages of their career or looking to shift the focus of their practice towards working in an education setting. The programme will take place over three school terms.

About the role

Opportunities for trainees: 

  • Support Lead Artist Educators in a range of school settings.
  • Lead an activity or session with support from Bow Arts Staff and Lead Artists.
  • Gain practical skills in planning and delivering formal learning projects.
  • Receive 1-1 mentoring from an experienced Artist Educator.
  • Take part in group reflection meetings with Bow Arts staff and the traineeship cohort.
  • Engage in peer-to-peer activities and discussions; including group visits, artist ‘crits’ and reading groups.
  • Attending Continued Professional Development (CPD) workshops delivered by experienced Artist Educators.
  • Connect with a wider community of Artist Educators. On successfully completing the programme Artist Educator Trainees will be added to Bow Arts’ pool of Artist Educators and will be offered future work as Artist Educators delivering projects in schools.

You will be paid: £52.50 for a half day. £105.00 for a full day. There will be an additional fee for attending meetings and training sessions. The fee is inclusive of planning time and VAT. 

Commitment. 

Trainees will be expected to commit to about nine days each term, made up of half days, full days, and meetings.

Additional Cost. All artists who work at Bow Arts are required to have an Enhanced DBS Check. If you have an enhanced child workforce DBS check issued within the last three years we will need to see the original certificate. If you do not have a DBS we will support you to complete one. The current cost of an enhanced DBS check is £62.70 which you will have to pay

Requirements

  • Have a visual arts practice.
  • Have a passion for arts education and a strong desire to work with Bow Arts as an artist educator in schools.
  • Be from a background underrepresented within the arts sector. 
  • Some experience working with children and young people.
  • Have excellent communication skills and confidence in working with people of all ages.
  • Have excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Be willing to travel to schools across London.
  • Have some availability from 8:30am-4pm on weekdays during school term time.
  • Be ready to learn and be enthusiastic about contributing to a community of artists and educators.
