Children’s Support Workers work collaboratively as part of a whole refuge team under the direction and supervision of specialist workers and team leaders. It includes working with the whole family but with a key focus on the children and young people (0 to 18). 

Working in conjunction with the adult team of Domestic Abuse (DA) Recovery Support Workers, the Children’s Support Worker will assist with the provision of housing management and support services and ensure compliance with individual support plans. 

Workers will contribute to the support and wellbeing of resident women, children and young people to ensure their stay at the Refuge is a positive experience. We consider the services we offer to children a key element of our work and there is significant responsibility in relation to support, safeguarding and practical assistance to help the children and young people recover from the trauma of domestic abuse they have lived with prior to coming to the Refuge.

• Have an open and welcoming manner and good communication skills with both adults and children.

• A good understanding of child development and the ability to identify environmental risks and impact.

• A sound understanding of child protection, Early Help, Adults at Risk and a commitment to follow procedure.

• A current valid driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance for work is highly desirable.
