At Coventry City Council, we are committed to excellence in everything we do. With over 5000 staff from a range of different backgrounds, our aim is to recruit and develop talented people who will focus on our city, take responsibility, work together, and find better ways of doing things.
As a Council, we have a wide range of vacancies to offer across a variety of fields. We hope that you will find something that matches what you're looking for and are excited to be part of the team here at Coventry City Council. There are countless services within the Council that aim to make the city a better place to live and work. Working at the Council is a chance to bring your own ideas, be listened to, and shape the services we provide. Based in the heart of the city, we have so much to offer our dedicated staff, with excellent commuting links, generous annual leave, pay progression, flexible working and much more.
Coventry City Council’s ‘One Coventry Plan’ sets out our vision and priorities for the city, based on our commitments to the people of Coventry and the things that residents have told us are most important. The plan sets out visions of working together to improve our city and the lives of those who live, work, and study here.
The Council has a Disabled Employees Network which aims to empower people and support colleagues. We provide inclusive open forums for colleagues with similar lived experiences to meet, support and mentor each other, alongside being a voice for under-represented groups to advise and challenge the organisation when developing policies and services. Our goal is to create a better sense of community, belonging and wellbeing for colleagues.
Members of the DEN have recently been involved in the accessibility projects and have given us valuable feedback to enhance our systems and processes.
We have a talent development programme for employees who identify as neurodiverse or disabled, or who have a long-term physical or mental health condition.
The programme aims to transform how disabled employees think about themselves and their disability, and to show them how to take control of the discussion in a constructive way. Disabled employees face unique challenges, and this programme equips them with the skills they need to enable them to thrive in a variety of roles and positions. The programme has its foundations within the Social Model of disability, which says that disability is created by barriers in society, rather than caused by an individual’s health condition or difficulty. Programme participants share experiences with fellow colleagues, learn about their legal rights and responsibilities and engage with a new way of thinking about disability in the workplace.
We are a Disability Confident Level 2 employer and in the process of tendering our application to become Level 3. With over 700 jobs at Coventry City Council, we are sure we can find the right job for you and welcome you to contact us to discuss further.
We have an anonymised application form and process, so hiring managers do not see any personal information during the shortlisting process. This ensures candidates that they cannot be identified in any way that could lead to conscious or unconscious bias during the selection process.

The recruitment team at Coventry City Council has recently introduced an accessibility process that enables candidates to contact us and access support with our recruitment process. This aims to reduce some of the barriers often found when trying to apply for a job and navigate an online application form.
We are also working with our system provider to improve the online application form when used with assistive technology for people with visual impairments. Some great work has already taken place and we will continue to enhance our service and systems.
