This role focuses on empowering individuals who have experienced domestic abuse through one-on-one, therapeutic support, with a strong emphasis on community-building, intersectional feminism, and anti-oppressive practices.

As a Domestic Abuse Counsellor, you will work directly with survivors of domestic abuse, offering one-on-one therapeutic support tailored to their individual needs. You will provide trauma-informed, therapeutic counselling services that help individuals process and heal from the effects of domestic abuse, building their resilience and supporting their journey to recovery. Your role will be vital in offering a supportive environment for survivors, where they can regain their sense of self and strength.

Supervision and ongoing professional development are core to this role, with both clinical and line management support. This position requires a commitment to working within a trauma-informed framework centred on healing, resilience, and the empowerment of survivors.

• Professional qualification minimum level 5 in Counselling and or Psychotherapy
• Registration with a relevant professional body for example, BACP, UKCP and so on
• Accreditation with a relevant professional body or working towards accreditation
• Experience of counselling or professional work with survivors or victims of domestic or sexual abuse
• Experience of working sensitively with confidential material
• Experience of managing clinical risk and ongoing assessment of that risk
• Experience of completing counselling assessments
• Experience of using case recording systems to keep accurate and timely client records in accordance with practice standards
• Experience of working with a diverse range of communities including LGBTQ+, BME, those with disabilities and or on low income
• Experienced in trauma-informed practice and counselling
• Evidence of interest and understanding of how domestic or sexual abuse can impact survivors, whether it was historic child sexual abuse or a recent incident, including the impact on Mental Health
• Ability to respond sensitively and empathically to highly distressed clients
• Proven ability to work creatively and flexibly, using evidence-based approaches to achieve positive change
• Confident working well independently as well as in a team setting
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook and Word), with ability to accurately input sensitive data electronically
