Neighbourhood Services run more than 25 community centres and libraries across the city of Leicester. We offer the opportunity to borrow books and use other resources, hire community space, use our computers and be part of groups in our centres. At the heart of the communities, we provide a wide range of information, advice, and guidance to people of all ages and backgrounds.

About the role

Working in our well-presented and accessible libraries, community centres or multi-service centres, you’ll provide a welcoming service to people who use our services. You’ll signpost and resolve queries from members of the public in a professional and polite manner. You’ll maintain stock levels, lift, carry and move books, furniture, and equipment, undertake remedial cleaning duties as well as set up and alter rooms to meet service needs. Using proficient IT skills, you’ll maintain computerised records and confidently support customers to use our computers.

Requirements

  • Experience of working with members of the public and customers either in a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Experience of using computers and electronic devices
  • Experience of carrying out cleaning duties, manual handling and setting up rooms
  • Experience of communicating information, providing advice, and responding to enquiries
  • Literacy and numeracy skills sufficient for the job tasks
  • Ability to plan and organise own workload and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Good knowledge of IT with the skills and ability to carry out a range of duties and support service users using computers
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety
