Key information

Our volunteers and staff can be found in courts, prisons, probation services, and in communities across England and Wales.  We are a diverse, inclusive, modern, and collaborative charity.  We build effective partnerships and sustainable solutions based on our well-established understanding of the systems in which we work, and on our historic values and ethos developed through our 120+ years of service delivery.

About the role

A Pact Youth Ambassador role is a flexible, paid position designed for young people who have experienced the imprisonment of a parent. Pact wants to work with young people who have been affected by imprisonment. We want to amplify your voice and try to influence change based on what you tell us is important. By sharing your experiences and discussing what worked for you or what support you wish you had, you’ll play an important part in making sure future children of prisoners get the support they need. Our ambassadors will need to be able to commit to two hours a month for around 6 months. Pact Youth Ambassadors usually combine their work for Pact with other employment or education, and we design the roles to be as flexible as possible.

You’ll share your experiences directly with Pact. Sometimes we might ask you to talk to other professionals such as people working for HMPPS, the government or people who are supporting children in the community (but you don’t need to do this if you don’t feel ready). You’ll give feedback on key questions and ideas around support for children with a parent in prison. You’ll stay in touch with the team via our messaging chat group and via email. You’ll help us with specific tasks, giving your ideas and input to resources and projects we’re working on.

Requirements

Most of the work we do will be online, so you’ll need a laptop, tablet or phone with a working camera and microphone. We may occasionally ask you to travel to an in-person event or meeting. If that happens, travel will be arranged and paid for, and if you’re under 18, we’ll pay for a parent or carer too. You will be expected to work to our team’s code of conduct, including our norms surrounding safeguarding, data protection and confidentiality. You will need a bank account, in your name, to have participatory payments paid into.
