Key information

You will attend college 1 day per week to study a Level 3 in Building services engineering service and maintenance engineer. You’ll learn service and maintenance techniques associated with industrial and commercial mechanical and electrical systems such as heating and ventilation, air and water systems. You will work with our experienced technicians for the remaining 4 days of the week.

Our Building Services Facilities Management (FM) team provides mechanical and electrical maintenance services to hospitals, schools, defence sites and other commercial buildings across the UK to make sure they are safe. 

As an Apprentice Mechanical and Electrical Building Maintenance Technician, you will be working as part of a team of engineers ensuring safety and comfort of building users (users, staff, visitors) by carrying out planned and emergency break down maintenance to electrical and mechanical plant and equipment.  

We are now looking for enthusiastic Apprentice Mechanical and Electrical Building Maintenance Technicians to join our 2026 development programme and help us shape the future at Essex Schools.

Requirements

  • You will ideally hold a Level 2 qualification in Maths and English (GCSE at Grades 4 to 9 or their equivalent) for us to successfully enrol you on the apprenticeship however please feel free to apply if you do not meet this criteria.

  • You must have lived in the UK in the last 3 years and have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for an apprenticeship. We are not able to proceed with applications that require visa sponsorship.
  • We are not able to proceed with applications from candidates that have already achieved a degree in a similar discipline.
  • DBS Check: Due to the nature of the facilities, successful candidates will be required to undergo a DBS.
