Key information

The role forms part of the Southeast Region’s Operations team and involve working closely with the two Site Managers responsible for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. Together, you will support the management of the Woodland Trust’s sites across these three counties.

The role includes assisting with a programme of works to ensure our woodlands are safe, accessible, and managed to the highest environmental standards, with particular adherence to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards. Responsibilities will include: conducting onsite inspections and surveys, helping to organise and supervise a range of small to medium scale contracts, overseeing volunteering activities, and engaging with the public.

About the role

  • Assist in the delivery of woodland management works by supporting the management of site based contracts, supervising contractors, and working alongside volunteers.
  • Support the review of woodland management plans, including carrying out Woodland Ecological Condition Assessments, herbivore impact assessments and site surveys.
  • Implement Woodland Trust's Health and Safety policy on sites, including tree safety inspections, site risk assessments, monitoring of work and appropriate recording of visits.
  • Support the Trust’s engagement with visitors and the communities at key sites across the three counties, and support across the South East region as required.
  • Assist with the effective communication of estate based information and stories, to support our local communication plans.
  • Assist other staff in delivering the Woodland Trust’s business and projects on the estate, for example by supporting corporate and legacy events and Very Important Person (VIP) visits.

This is a homebased role, requiring regular travel across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire and on occasion to remote locations. Occasional travel to regional offices and overnight stays will be required. You would be expected to live within or within reasonable travelling distance of your area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Qualified to Higher National Certificate Level Four in forestry or countryside management or a related field.
  • A full driving licence and the ability to undertake regular travel across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and other parts of the Southeast region. A company vehicle will be provided for this role.
  • Experience of land based management in the forestry or nature conservation sector.
  • Proven experience of community engagement and or volunteer management.
  • Experienced in working collaboratively across multiple teams.
  • Be Information Technology (IT) literate, with Microsoft Office experience, and proficient in the use of Applications on mobile devices.
  • Proven communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to represent the Woodland Trust, both internally and externally, in a professional, competent and positive manner.
